Satish Vankayalapati – Chairman and EVP, Global Business Development
Satish is the Founder/CEO of UrbanX Global, which invests in technology-enhanced healthcare and medical devices, platforms for enhancing and securing the online environment, and real estate.
Satish recently served as the President of Capri Capital Partners, the $3.6 billion real estate asset management firm and was a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he opened the Firm’s Doha office and co-led the real estate and infrastructure practice and served in the technology practice
Peter N. Madras, MD
Dr. Peter N. Madras received his MD from McGill University and enjoyed a 30 year career as a transplant and vascular surgeon and associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School before joining the staff of Lahey Hospital 12 years ago. Before becoming a surgeon, Dr. Madras was the Medical Program director at the Avco Everett Laboratory which produced the Intra-Aortic Balloon pump, the first temporarily implantable cardiac assist device which is still in use for treatment of heart failure.
During his surgical career Dr. Madras consulted to a number of device companies and was Medical Director at Grace Biomedical working on biohybrid artificial organs. Upon retiring from the active practice of surgery Dr. Madras founded two companies; the Medical Record Bank, Inc. and Asentral IRB, Inc. He was also principal investigator on a number of NIH SBIR grants devoted to the goal of advancing surgery without blood loss. He was appointed by the State Governor to serve on the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for 6 years, chairing that group for 2 years and followed that with service for two terms (six years) on the National Board of Medical Examiners. He was tasked by Harvard Medical International to assemble and lead a team to write the Regulations for the Practice of Medicine for the Dubai Healthcare City.
Currently, Dr. Madras is part of the core Faculty at the Sloan School of Business of MIT and serves on the boards of a number of young or start-up companies. Dr. Madras has been a member of MDG for 4 years and became President of MDG 18 months ago.
Bob Rioux, EVP Engineering and Product Development
Robert Rioux has over 25 years of experience in developing and commercializing medical devices and capital equipment. He has 127 issued U.S. patents and has developed and commercialized medical devices in the gynecology, orthopedic, oncology, blood processing, surgical, general surgery, and wound care fields. He specializes in minimally invasive devices and the interface between the device and capital equipment, as well as electrosurgical and electromechanical devices.
Robert’s experience includes R&D management building and leading high-performance teams, as well as creating new portfolios of devices. He has extensive new business development experience assessing new opportunities, and participating in various agreements, and integration.
Mary W. Kilwien
Mary is the Executive Vice President of Strategic Alliances, and Investor Relations for MedicaMetrix. In her role, she is responsible for establishing partnerships globally with healthcare and research institutions, associations, and industry leaders.
Mary is entrepreneurial, and has a breadth of experience that spans marketing, technology, lifestyle, health, and wellness. She has considerable experience in developing products aimed at the millennials. She co-founded and served as Chief Marketing Officer for the London-based Smalls and Walker, an innovative natural cosmetics company. She developed and nurtured a niche brand, managed channels, established strategic partnerships, introduced the first line of cruelty-free aromatherapy products, and created a private label sold exclusively through Nordstrom. Early on in her career, Mary marketed technology-based communication systems to Fortune 500 companies. Mary brings a wide network of not-for-profit institutions, funds, and family offices.
Mary did her undergraduate work at the University of Washington, studying Communication, with continued education focusing on social media and marketing. She has been a committed volunteer in arts and healthcare. She serves on the advisory board for the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been a member of the Women’s Health Advisory Council for Northwestern Medicine at Lake Forest Hospital.
Mary is an avid traveler, both domestically and abroad, a competitive swimmer, an avid cyclist, and an advocate of health and wellness.
Robert J. Rudelius – President & Chief Executive Officer
Robert Rudelius is the Chief Executive Officer of MedicaMetrix, a medical technology company which is at the forefront of innovation in prostate care. MedicaMetrix offers a comprehensive prostate disease diagnosis and management platform by blending together devices with data analytics and AI. MedicaMetrix is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has affiliate operations in the Netherlands and India.
Mr. Rudelius is also the Managing Partner of the Healthcare vertical of UrbanX Group, an investment company focused on innovation markets. He serves as a member of the Axogen, Inc. Board of Directors since September 2011. From 2013 to 2019 he served as the Chairman of the Company’s Audit Committee and a member of the Compensation Committee. Axogen (NASDAQ: AXGN) is the leader in the science, development, and commercialization of technologies for peripheral nerve regeneration and repair.
Since 2018, Mr. Rudelius has served on the Board of Directors for PetVivo Holdings, Inc., where he is Chairman of the Compensation Committee and a member of the Governance Committee. PetVivo (NASDAQ: PETV) is an emerging biomedical device company focused on developing innovative human medical device technologies for the companion animal market.
Since 2001, Mr. Rudelius has been the Managing Director and CEO of Noble Ventures, LLC, a company he founded that provides advisory services to medical technology, biosciences and information technology companies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Rudelius has served in several senior leadership roles such as CEO of Media DVX, Inc., a media technology company; President and COO of Control Data Systems (acquired by British Telecom), as well as Managing Partner of AT&T Solutions.
From 1990 through 1995, Mr. Rudelius was a Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he served as a leader of Information Technology & Systems practices in the United Kingdom and Japan.
He began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. where he was a leader of the firm’s financial accounting systems consulting practice and designed and implemented large systems for technology and government clients. Mr. Rudelius has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Jeff Muzzy – Chief Technology
Jeff Muzzy is the Chief Technology Officer of MedicaMetrix. He is a talented leader who has architected, designed, and operated new technology-based products and services to market with global scale. Jeff has worked thirty-five years in the tech industry for multibillion-dollar companies and startups.
Jeff was a leader on teams designed and released. Microsoft Windows (1.0 – XP, Win 10), Microsoft Word, Excel, Exchange and System architect for MSN Backend Services and Application Architecture. These systems support multiple billions of requests per day. An example is MSN Weather, Sports and News.
Jeff has eleven years in the IOT (Internet of Thing) in the automotive sector designing connected car distribution. Jeff has worked as a partner for Ford (Sync), GM (OnStar), Nissan- Renault (Connect and Alliance), Chrysler-Fiat (UConnect). In addition, Jeff has created several hardware and software used by millions of users daily.
Jeff is a board member on a few technology companies including an AI (Artificial Intelligence) that is developing computer vision and alerting for automobiles, and a technology company for process automation of sports equipment.
Perry Borch, Director of Sales and Business Development
Perry Borch is the Director of Sales and Business Development for the Critical Care Division of MedicaMetrix, Inc. Perry has over 35 years of proven sales success in the healthcare industry. He spent 19 years with C.R. Bard, Inc. where his last role was the VP of Sales for Bard Peripheral Vascular. Since leaving Bard, Perry has held numerous VP and General Management positions with start-ups as well as established world-class medical device corporations such as Smith & Nephew, DJO, Medical Action Industries, Catheter Connections, Vascular Pathways and most recently Wright Medical. Perry, throughout his career, has been instrumental in developing and executing sales strategies that achieve aggressive sales growth. Perry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the MedicaMetrix team that includes sales leadership, sales management, developing GPO/IDN strategies, distribution and channel strategies and business development. He has worked closely with distributors and direct sales organizations in developing and executing business plans, strategies, and tactics that exceed desired results. Perry received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Montclair State University.
Christopher G. Lafarge – Inventor & Advisor
Mr. LaFarge is an operationally focused director and executive, with extensive experience as a senior executive in closely held companies including entrepreneurial start-ups, high-growth, and mature organizations. He has also served on the Boards of several privately held corporations, as well as educational and non-profit boards.
He has acquired deep experience in the areas of product development, life sciences, QA systems, and financing. An energetic and outgoing executive who understands business issues and focuses on leading by building relationships and collaborating at all levels.
Mr. LaFarge has provided strategic leadership for early stage, life science, and medical device companies in the fields of urology, anesthesiology, intensive care, and neuroscience as well as companies in the oil and gas, management consulting, and natural resources industries. He has significant experience in raising both debt and equity capital.
Since 2019, Mr. LaFarge has been the COO of Bach Pharma, a pharmaceutical company developing therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like ALS and Parkinson’s and other life-threatening redox and inflammation-related illnesses like radiation, chemical poisoning, or viral and bacterial infections like pneumonia.
Christopher is also working with an artificial intelligence company in Atlanta GA, IMARC AI, to develop AI-based decision support for ICU/ER physicians as well as other healthcare AI applications.
From 2004-2018, He was the President and CEO of MedicaMetrix, Inc., the predecessor organization to MedicaMetrix LLC where he invented ProstaMetric®, obtained European regulatory approval (CE Marking certification), and created scalable, manufacturing procedures for the device, and developed a quality management system which received an ISO 13485 certification.
From 1994-2003 he was the CFO and Director of Business Development for IIC, which was created to build and market expert systems, intelligent devices, and control systems for the exploration, drilling, and production segments of the “upstream” petroleum industry.
Christopher also has a wide range of Board experience, working as part of both management teams and boards as well as start-ups and recently capitalized companies with newly organized boards. Mr. LaFarge has an MBA from the Yale School of Management, an MFS in environmental Science from Yale U., and a BA in Biology from Harvard College.
Cynthia Owens – Director, Global Clinic Affairs
Cynthia is a compliance and ethics professional whose primary responsibility is defining the design and execution of the company’s clinical trial division with a focus on demonstrating medical device safety and efficacy. Her role is to safeguard trials are conducted in full compliance to GCP and all other applicable regulatory requirements in a global environment.
She is an expert in integrating integrity and compliance into healthcare and corporate processes to produce successful outcomes.
Cynthia has over 28 years of experience in the clinical trials, pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare industries. Her medical field experience began in 1989, focusing exclusively on clinical research from 1994-2005, then adding integrity monitoring and assessment of regulated industries, both small and large to her experience. In addition, she co-founded Asentral Institutional Review Board where their primary clients were medical device companies. Cynthia has served as Director of Clinical Trials for a variety of indications from diabetes to cardiovascular disease, representative clients include Astra Zeneca, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, and Pfizer. She has also served as Conflict Manager, overseeing conflicts of interest for a global public-private partnership focused on preclinical discovery and development.
Richard C. Carlson – Executive Vice President – Business Development
Rick Carlson is the Executive Vice President – Marketing and Global Business Development. He returns to the company after having served as the Vice President of International Marketing from 2015 to 2017. In that position, he was responsible for setting up a subsidiary company in the Netherlands and initiated a multi-center clinical trial in the United Kingdom and Europe. Rick identified and built relationships with key urology constituency groups to establish support for the product, and developed support systems to manage distribution, order processing and after-sales service. He also designed clinical protocols for conducting scientific studies including the collection and analysis of data.
Rick has more than 20 years of prostate disease market experience and has been involved in companies focused on the specialty of urology for more 30 years. Rick has proven leadership track record in the US, Europe and other global markets, and he is poised to scaling MedicaMetrix rapidly in both the US, and in international markets. Throughout all of his previous positions, Rick has developed relationships with key urologists and other physicians in major medical centers throughout U.S., Europe and Japan. Prior to MedicaMetrix, Rick served as the CEO of ProUroCare Medical, Inc., a developer of a mechanical imaging device that creates a real-time color image of the prostate.
During the hiatus from MedicaMetrix between 2017 and present, Rick has been serving as the Director of Business Development for a company with an innovative product and technology for eliminating biofilm and other bacteria in water-based facilities. His primary contributions at this company was to develop a U.S. and an international dealer network which resulted in a 65% increase in sales (yoy) in 2019.
Earlier in his career, Rick identified clinical and economic benefits of a range of medtech devices and products, developed requirements for obtaining clinical validation and regulatory approvals in the US and Europe. He also designed training materials and scalable in-service training programs for physicians, and developed product, clinical, regulatory and commercialization strategies for marketing the products.
Rick has created unique medtech device business models, reimbursement strategy, billing models to maximize revenue, acquired and helped submit more than 20 patents to provide a strong intellectual property position. He also helped four medical device companies to develop go-to-market strategies, developed channel and distribution strategies.
His previous urology work experience in the medical device industry includes extended commitments at a gamut of industry leaders such as American Medical Systems, C. R. Bard, Boston Scientific and Advanced Surgical Intervention, Medtronic, and Vicon Systems.
Rick has a BA with honors in Business/Economics from the University of Minnesota, and an MBA with honors in Marketing from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. John A. Libertino
He is a renowned urologist who is highly regarded for his excellent clinical skills in treating patients with a variety of urologic diseases and is affiliated with Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. His clinical interests include urologic surgery, adrenal cancer, renal cancer, bladder cancer, continent diversions, prostate cancer, urethral cancer and testes cancer.
Prior to joining Emerson, Dr. Libertino held several senior positions at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, including those as CEO and Chairman, Chairman of the Division of Surgery, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Director of the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center. Dr. Libertino completed his residency in urology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center and is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in urology and surgery.
As a frequent contributor to medical journals, Dr. Libertino served as Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Urology Review. He has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career, including The Milton and Natalie Zucker Clinical Teaching Prize for Outstanding Clinical Teaching from Tufts University School of Medicine and the Lahey Clinical Medical Research Award. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Libertino has been named Senior Vice President of Clinical Business Development at Emerson Hospital.
MAHESH DESAI, M.D.
Dr. Mahesh Desai is one of the most renowned urologists in India with over 40 years of experience. He pioneered the modern treatment of various kidney and urological diseases in the country. He is currently the Head of Robotic Surgery at the Centre for Robotic Surgery (CRS), and Managing Trustee at Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH in Nadiad, India.
After completing his education and trainings, he joined hands with Dr. V.V. Desai in 1976 to establish Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH) with the aim of providing making modern treatment available for the common man.
Dr. Mahesh Desai pioneered various new minimally invasive procedures for urology in India and is among the leading robotic surgeons in Asia. He is also an expert in prostate related treatments and surgeries, including laparoscopic or robotic prostatectomies. Dr. Desai and his team have performed over 750 successful robotic procedures since. Dr. Desai has been recognized internationally for his contributions to urology. Over the years, he has published over 750 scientific papers in the fields of urology, prostate cancer and robotic surgery at various international medical conferences. He served as the President for renowned professional bodies such as World Endourological Society, Societe Internationale d’urologie and the Urological Society of India.
